Victoria man pleads guilty to Nanaimo murder

Brandon Tyler Woody, a 32-year-old Victoria man, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a Nanaimo courtroom Friday in connection with a 2017 shooting, CHEK news reports.

Woody had been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 34-year-old Andrew Alexander McLean at Nanaimo’s Howard Johnson Hotel.

The shooting happened in the early morning on April 19, 2017. A hotel employee called 911 about 3:20 a.m. after hearing gunshots.

Nanaimo RCMP and B.C. Ambulance paramedics responded. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

About an hour after the 911 call, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP stopped a vehicle and made an arrest.

Woody’s sentencing hearing is scheduled to begin March 25.
