Two Victoria police officers were injured while arresting a man who was acting erratically on Sunday morning.

Just after 6 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of Blanshard Street and Burdett Avenue by a report that a man was jumping on vehicles. The caller also reported that the man had attempted to get into a City of Victoria public works vehicle. When officers arrived, the man tried to climb on the patrol vehicle.

Officers attempted to calm the man using de-escalation techniques, but were unsuccessful. The man began to fight with officers, at which point they arrested him. Both officers sustained non-life threatening injuries but were able to return to duty.

During the incident, officers used a Taser on the man, but it was ineffective and did not cause injury.

The man was transported to hospital, where he was treated for mental-health problems.
