Vandals damaged 30 trees in the Cedar Ridge Estates neighbourhood of Parksville over the May long weekend.

Thirty trees in Parksville will be taken down after being vandalized over the weekend.

RCMP and city staff were on site Tuesday to assess the damage, estimated to be at least $30,000.

The city said it appears the vandalism was intended to destroy the trees, located in the Cedar Ridge Estates neighbourhood, and would have taken considerable effort by more than one person.

Ten trees were damaged at the base, while the other 20 had a significant amount cut from their top. All 30 trees will be removed.

The healthy fir and pine trees were about 7.5 to nine metres tall.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111.
