Victoria police say they have found the owner of a camera found during a break-in investigation in January.

The Times Colonist printed a photo of a wedding picture from the camera, provided by the Victoria police, and the interest from readers was immediate.

Police said they received feedback "pretty quickly that family members of the camera owner are aware that they have the camera and they will be reaching out to us."

They not believe the camera and precious photos have been returned as yet.

The camera, a black Canon Powershot SX0IS, was found on Jan. 23 when patrol officers were investigating a break-in on the 700 block of Johnson Street. It contains images of a family celebrating a wedding. For that reason, officers believed the camera holds strong sentimental value and were anxious to see the camera returned
