Two sailings on the Queen of New Westminster, which runs between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen, were cancelled on Wednesday because of a staffing shortage.

The 6 p.m. sailing out of Tsawwassen was cancelled and the 8 p.m. sailing from Swartz Bay was cancelled.

Under Transport Canada rules, ferries must have a specific number of crew members on the vessel to be permitted to sail.

Customers with reservations on the affected sailings will be contacted and accommodated on the next available sailing where possible, B.C. Ferries said.

A staff shortage saw the Queen of New Westminster pulled from service on Friday. It did not sail on its final round trip between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay that day. The Coastal Celebration was used for that sailing instead.
