Transportation Ministry chips in $15,000 for Marigold Elementary playground

The playground equipment fund at Marigold Elementary school has received a $15,000 boost. The contribution should bring fundraising efforts “darn close” to the goal, said Transportation Minister Todd Stone, who said it was a “good neighbour” gesture.

The playground equipment fund at Marigold Elementary school has received a $15,000 boost.

The contribution should bring fundraising efforts “darn close” to the goal, said Transportation Minister Todd Stone, who said it was a “good neighbour” gesture.

Last July, Stone said he “certainly wouldn’t be opposed” to helping out with equipment given parents’ concerns that the back play area abuts the $85-million McKenzie interchange project.

Parent Advisory Council president Sheryl Roodenburg said she has been writing to the minister ever since and called it “delightful” that Stone had followed through on his offer.

Parents have raised about $80,000 in the past six years, Roodenburg said.
