A bus driver attacked Thursday afternoon at Hillside Avenue and Douglas Street is recovering at home but will be off work for an unknown time, says the president of the union local representing B.C. Transit workers.

“We’re not quite sure how long,” said Ben Williams, president of Unifor Local 333. “These injuries can take quite some time to recover from.”

Victoria police said it appears that the driver in the Thursday incident tried to intervene in an altercation between two people on the bus, then was attacked after disembarking.

Police arrested a suspect.
