A 25-year-old man was ticketed for failing to stop at a stop sign but avoided a charge for having an imitation police badge.

He was pulled over about 2 p.m. Saturday near King George Terrace and Beach Drive by an Oak Bay police officer, who noticed the badge in a leather case hanging from the rear-view mirror.

It had “Special Police” inscribed on it and a reference to a local police agency on the back.

The badge was seized.

While displaying the badge in that manner is a criminal offence, police said charges are not being considered at this time because the driver was not actively using it and had no history of doing so.
