Tonals were stolen from the Comox Valley disc golf course on April 22.

The people behind the April 22 theft of painted tanks or “tonals” from the Comox Valley disc golf course took one that contains the ashes of a former caretaker for the property.

“The family of the previous caretaker is devastated that these ashes are gone,” Comox Valley RCMP Const. Monika Terragni said in a statement. “It is possible the thieves do not know that one of the tonals carries something so important.

“This is their chance to have it returned.”

The items are called tonals because they serve as targets for disc golfers and make a distinctive sound when they are hit.

Anyone with information is asked to call Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-(TIPS) 8477 or go to comoxvalleycrimestoppers.com.
