Three rescued after boat catches fire

A 40-foot boat that set out from French Creek Thursday burst into flames, sending two adults and a youth about 12 into the water.

A 40-foot boat that set out from French Creek Thursday burst into flames, sending two adults and a youth about 12 into the water. The adults were clutching fenders from the boat and the youth had a lifejacket on when they were picked up after about 45 minutes by the coast guard, said Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien.

The trio was taken to Departure Bay Beach, where an ambulance was waiting. No details on their condition was available.
