Three men have been charged in connection with a targeted assault in a Duncan-area motel.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded to a disturbance and found a 36-year-old Crofton man with serious injuries near Alexander Street in Duncan on Feb. 15.

They determined he had been assaulted at a motel in the area.

A suspect was arrested near the scene. Two others were arrested later at a Lake Cowichan residence.

“Investigation has determined this incident was targeted and we do not believe there is a risk to the public at this time,” Cpl. Trevor March of the Street Crime Unit said in a statement.

James Otis Downey, 22, of Youbou, 35-year-old Manjit Singh Guray of Shawnigan Lake and 33-year-old Curtis Cleveland Gall of Duncan are all charged with aggravated assault and forcible confinement.

Downey and Guray remain in custody, while Gall has been released pending an April court appearance.
