Thieves take advantage of unlocked cars in Langford

Thieves had an easy time getting into 25 vehicles in a Langford neighbourhood early this morning, mostly taking advantage of unlocked doors to make off with jewelry, cash and identification.

The thieves targeted vehicles in the area south of Sooke Road between Jacklin and Happy Valley roads, said West Shore RCMP spokesman Const. Alex Berube. In one case, a wallet with more than $100 was taken.

Berube said it’s a reminder to lock car doors at all times.

“These are crimes of opportunity that are easily avoidable,” Berube said. “Those criminals are looking for easy targets.”

RCMP forensic identification officers spent this morning looking for fingerprints to advance the investigation.
