Saanich police say a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted after getting off a bus Thursday evening.

She was approached by a man who started up a conversation with her while riding a B.C. Transit bus about 9:30 p.m., police said.

When she exited, the man followed her. Police said he made unwanted sexual advances and touched the teenager.

The suspect is described as about five-foot-seven and 30 years old with a dark complexion and black hair. He was clean-shaven and wearing skinny jeans. Police said the man spoke with an unidentified accent.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 250-475-4321, or contact Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.

A B.C. Transit spokesperson said anyone who is concerned about their safety or the safety of other passengers should tell the driver, who can contact police, ambulance or other emergency services.

Passengers can also ask a driver to stop between regular bus stops. “Ask your transit driver at least one bus stop ahead of where you wish to get off. You will be let off at a safe location closest to your request.”
