Suspect caught on camera ‘breaking out’ of Nanaimo business

Nanaimo RCMP have released surveillance pictures of a man they say is breaking out, rather than breaking in, at a business in the city’s north end after spending hours hidden inside.

He left with two computer monitors, police said.

Police were called to the business last weekend when a motion alarm was set off about 4 a.m.; at the same time cameras show a man leaving. The store’s security staff was able to determine the man entered the store at 9:06 p.m. the day before.

While inside the business, police said the man went into the men’s bathroom and locked himself in a stall. Several hours later, they said, he crawled through the ceiling tiles, made his way to the loss-prevention office and dropped inside.

After grabbing the monitors, he left via the main entrance.
