A police dog helped collar a suspect in an armed robbery at a Nanaimo liquor store in which a clerk was knocked to the ground.

The Jan. 15 robbery at the Quarterway liquor store happened about 3:40 p.m. when a man walked in and produced a gun. After the clerk was struck, she ran next door to alert staff at the Quarterway pub.

The man took off and was seen getting into a small silver car.

The arrest was made Saturday after the suspect was seen in a vehicle parked outside a south end motel in Nanaimo. A police dog was brought in and the man received a number of bites.

Several items related to the robbery were seized.

After being medically cleared at hospital, the man was taken to the Nanaimo RCMP detachment and remains in custody there.

Chase Peter Goodale, 28, was due for a Monday court appearance.
