One suspect is in custody and another is being sought after an armed robbery at an Oak Bay apartment last week.

Police said two people entered the suite of a man they knew on Wednesday, Aug. 14, to sell him some items. When the resident decided not to buy anything, one of the suspects pulled what appeared to be a 9 mm handgun.

A credit card, a debit card and various items were stolen. The suspect with the gun stayed with the resident while the other went to an ATM to withdraw money.

Police were informed of the incident on Friday. In a statement, Oak Bay police say they did not inform the public earlier “due to some sensitivities involved in the file and the fact that it was a targeted event.”

“A robbery at gunpoint is not a common offence in Oak Bay, however it is important to note that this was a targeted event,” said Oak Bay Deputy Police Chief Ray Bernoties.

Bernoties said police expect to make “a probable second arrest in the very near future.”
