Hundreds of people gathered at the legislature on Thursday afternoon, blocking the adjacent street as part of a demonstration against old-growth logging in B.C.

Victoria police said officers were present to “help keep people safe.” About 200 people were present, they said.

The group moved to the lawn of the nearby Empress Hotel before dispersing.

There have been several forestry protests at the legislature in recent weeks in support of anti-old-growth logging blockades near Port Renfrew, and another is planned for Friday.
