Environment Canada hasn't issued an alert but has called for “periods of snow beginning late this morning" in both Victoria's harbour and Hartland locations and in cities throughout Vancouver Island.

Update: A snowfall forecast has ended for parts of Vancouver Island.

At noon on Sunday, Drive B.C.'s network of highway webcams did not show evidence of snow at its locations.

But the forecast for Nanaimo at mid-day said there was a chance of wet snow flurries.

The Sunday forecast for Victoria is a high of 6, a low of minus 1, and a few clouds. Monday should be sunny with a high of 5 and a low of zero, Environment Canada says.

Earlier story:

Environment Canada has issued special weather statements warning of snow for eastern and inland Vancouver Island.

Significant accumulation is unlikely along the coast, but areas away from the water and over higher terrain could see up to five centimetres before Sunday morning.

In Victoria, the forecast calls for a chance of wet snow flurries overnight and Sunday morning, with the daytime high reaching 5 C.

Up to two centimetres of snowfall is possible in areas of higher terrain.

Clear, windy conditions are expected Sunday night, with a low of -1 C.
