Slippery road conditions mean police have been kept busy responding to crashes.

The recent snowfall has kept Greater Victoria police busy responding to a rush of calls.

Figures from Friday through Tuesday show there were 75 traffic incidents — 26 of them collisions — in the West Shore, RCMP said.

West Shore RCMP Const. Nancy Saggar said there were no reports of serious injuries.

Victoria police also reported no serious traffic incidents in their jurisdiction.

In Saanich, police were called to 36 crashes from Sunday through Wednesday.

Another 36 “traffic hazards or incidents” were reported, said Saanich police Sgt. Julie Fast. That includes everything from vehicles sliding to abandoned or stuck vehicles, and downed power lines or branches.

Saggar expressed gratitude to motorists who slowed down in response to road conditions, and those who stayed off the roads altogether.

Victoria police Const. Matt Rutherford said people still need to be cautious, no matter how they get around.

“Roads are still slippery in areas and people driving, walking and cycling need to use caution.”
