High-friction surfaces, designed to reduce skidding and crashes, have been installed at four high-collision intersections on the Patricia Bay Highway in Saanich. The specialized aggregate and resin treatment is expected to last for more than seven years. It has been applied at Cloverdale Avenue, Elk Lake Drive, Sayward Road and Mount Newton Cross Road. Work on the $3.9-million project, a partnership between the Transportation Ministry and ICBCm, began last year but was delayed due to weather.
