Single-car crash sends four to hospital; driver arrested

Victoria police are investigating a single-car crash that sent four people to hospital early Sunday.

There were five people in the car at the time of the crash.

Two people remained in hospital Sunday afternoon with injuries described as potentially life-altering. Two others had been treated for their injuries and released.

The driver of the car was arrested and remains in custody.

Officers were called to the intersection of Fisgard and Blanshard streets just after 12:10 a.m. after a white hatchback crashed into the side of Romeo’s restaurant and the Philippine Banyan Community Centre. Both buildings had minor damage.

B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics and Victoria firefighters helped to extract the occupants of the badly damaged car and stabilize the passengers.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by traffic officers and collision investigators.
