Sighting of wanted man near Parksville a false alarm, police say

Oceanside RCMP say a sighting Friday night in Parksville of a man wanted in connection with a double homicide in Calgary was a false alarm.

Jordan Jay Ward, 20, is facing two counts of manslaughter and is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

Two hikers called police after seeing a man they said resembled Ward. He had a rifle slung over his shoulder.

Police say a man — not Ward — came forward to police after seeing their media release to say he was the man seen.

Ward had reportedly been seen previously in the Comox Valley.

He is described as white, five-foot-nine and 165 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone who sees Ward is asked to call 911.
