Victoria police are looking for the driver who struck and killed a dog and narrowly missed a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.

The incident happened Nov. 9 about 5:15 p.m. as a pedestrian was crossing the crosswalk at Dallas Road and Menzies Street with two small dogs.

An eastbound vehicle stopped for him but as he crossed the road, a westbound vehicle blew through the crosswalk.

The car struck one of the dogs, killing him instantly.

The pedestrian yelled at the vehicle, which slowed but did not stop. The driver continued westbound toward the cruise ship terminal.

The pedestrian and the other dog were not injured.

The vehicle is described as a white, shuttle bus-style vehicle with a light bar on the roof instead of individual lights. The vehicle also has a loud squeaking wheel.

Traffic officers are looking to speak with the driver of the vehicle.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Victoria police at 250-995-7654 or report anonymously through Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
