An almost half-acre chunk of seasonal wetland connected to King’s Pond Park — adjacent to Cedar Hill Golf Course — has been donated to the District of Saanich.

The district acquired the land, a portion of the property at 1360 Queensbury St., from the late Brian Patriquin through his will.

A Saanich statement said Patriquin’s wish was that the 1,940 square metres of land be held for park purposes. Patriquin grew up on adjacent Ascot Drive and his maternal grandparents owned Queensbury home and farm.

“The Queensbury home/farm was a place where people in the surrounding area could enjoy the serenity,” a family statement said. “Brian loved those memories and cherished the gift of owing the property.” — Times Colonist
