Update: Nanaimo hiker feared missing has been found, RCMP say

A 51-year-old man who was the subject of large search in Nanaimo has been located in Saskatchewan.

Nanaimo Search and Rescue were searching the area around the Living Forest Oceanside Campground and RV Park on Maki Road this morning for a missing hiker.

Cortney Latoski, 51, who has multiple sclerosis, was last seen at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Nanaimo’s Southgate Shopping Centre. He is known to walk for several hours at a time. However, when he was not home by 3 p.m., family grew concerned and started searching for him.

At 6 p.m., his family contacted Nanaimo RCMP, who called Nanaimo Search and Rescue for assistance.

The volunteer searchers began sweeping the area at 9 p.m. and continued until 2:30 a.m. The search resumed about 8:30 this morning.

Nanaimo RCMP reported at noon that Latoski had been located safe and sound.
