As Canada marked Red Dress Day, raising awareness of missing and murdered Indigenous women, Victoria police said they are continuing to investigate the disappearance of an Indigenous woman from Esquimalt 16 years ago.

Belinda Ann Cameron was last seen at the Esquimalt Shoppers Drug Mart on May 11, 2005, and was reported missing June 4.

Despite an extensive police investigation and a number of searches, she has never been found.

Police believe Cameron was a victim of foul play and are investigating her case as a homicide.

They said her daughters are now adults and want to know what happened to their mother.

Police said they believe somebody in the community knows what happened to Cameron, who was 42 when she went missing. Five-foot-eight and 170 pounds, Cameron had long, dark-brown hair parted in the middle and dark-brown eyes and wore silver-framed glasses.
