Saanich police seek suspect after sexual assault on Lochside Trail

Saanich police are investigating a sexual assault on the Lochside Trail that happened Sept 6. They said a woman was walking north on the trail near Swan Street between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. when a man approached her from behind and assaulted her.

Saanich police are investigating a sexual assault on the Lochside Trail that happened Sept 6.

They said a woman was walking north on the trail near Swan Street between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. when a man approached her from behind and assaulted her. He was last seen headed north on the trail in the direction of Saanich Road.

Officers received another report of the suspect being seen on the trail near Darwin Avenue, but have been unable to locate him.

The suspect is described as white, 30- to 40-years-old and five-foot-six with a stocky build and a long, sandy-coloured beard. He was wearing a light-coloured tuque, a pink shirt and blue jeans, and was carrying a black backpack and a black duffle bag.

Police believe he uses both the Lochside and Galloping Goose trail networks.
