Saanich police officers injured while arresting suspected shoplifter

Saanich police officers sustained minor injuries while arresting a suspected shoplifter near the Thrifty Foods at Quadra Street and McKenzie Avenue on Wednesday.

Police were called about 6 p.m. when a shoplifting suspect struggled with a loss-prevention officer and pulled a knife at the grocery store.

The suspect then ran to Quadra and was found by officers at Quadra and Union Road. The officers sustained minor injuries, including abrasions and bruises, during the arrest.

Charges of assault with a weapon, assault, theft under $5,000 and breach of probation are being recommended against a 24-year-old man.
