Saanich fire crews battle a blaze Saturday at Island Outfitters that has temporarily shut down the fishing and hunting store near Mayfair mall.

Saanich police and fire departments were expected to wrap up their joint investigation Monday into a Saturday morning fire that damaged Island Outfitters on Douglas Street.

“Police are working with both the fire investigator and forensics to determine whether it was malicious, suspicious or accidental,” said Deputy Fire Chief Dan Wood.

The fire started in storage sheds behind the building. Crews arrived about 6:30 a.m. and had the fire out by about 8 a.m.

Ward Bond, one of the owners of the fishing and hunting store, said he has still not been inside and is waiting to hear from officials.
