Actor Ryan Reynolds is lending his celebrity to a campaign for the Great Bear Rainforest.

The Vancouver-born Reynolds, who narrated the 2019 Great Bear Rainforest Imax film, has offered to match all donations to Pacific Wild made between Canada Day and B.C. Day, to a maximum of $50,000.

“I guess it’s kind of my way to help ensure that the rainforests that I grew up with as a kid are still going to be there — wild and unique and in the world for my kids and for hopefully their kids too,” Reynolds says in a video posted on the Pacific Wild website.

The organization, which is based in Victoria, says the donations will help the group achieve “lasting conservation protections for the lands and waters of B.C.’s Great Bear Rainforest and beyond.”

As of Friday morning, the campaign had reached 77 per cent of its goal.
