Tracy Marshall plans to run five marathons in five days, with a goal of raising $5,000 to support seniors at homes run by Broadmead Care.

Marshall was inspired to run as a thank- you to the caregivers at Beckley Farm Lodge, who looked after her mother, Carol, in her final year as a resident.

Carol died in March.

“I was looking for a way to honour the staff at Beckley Farm Lodge and the memory of my mother,” said Marshall, an avid runner and member of the Marathon Maniacs. “I really want to show my gratitude and do something to help. I have done multiple marathons before, but not for about five years. It will be a challenge for sure, but I think it is totally doable.”

She ran her first marathon on Thursday, with the last run scheduled for Monday. Marshall plans to stick to the 42.2-kilometre GoodLife Fitness Marathon route and finish each of the five runs at Beckley Farm Lodge in James Bay.

Broadmead Care is a non-profit organization that offers long-term care and programs for people who require assistance every day. It operates five locations in the Victoria area.

“There is a misconception that care homes are fully funded through the government,” said Lorraine Gee, manager of Beckley Farm Lodge. “Funding covers the basics, but extras like specialty equipment and programs are only possible through fundraising. We are so grateful and honoured Tracy is doing this to support our residents.”
