Eight unsafely stored rifles, two pickup trucks, a car and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle were seized as part of a West Shore RCMP investigation into drug trafficking.

Also located were over three ounces of cocaine and $42,000 in cash.

The searches took place April 23. One was carried out with assistance from Saanich police since it was on Saanich’s Barrington Road. The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team was also called in.

The other search, on Steeple Chase Road in Sooke, involved Sooke RCMP and the RCMP Emergency Response Team.

“In a region like the [capital region], with multiple city boundaries, there is a perception that you can move between police jurisdictions and that movement may protect you from police detection,” said Const. Meighan Massey.

“An investigation like this one shows how our police agencies work together to prevent the proliferation of drug trafficking, which doesn’t stop at jurisdictional boundaries.”
