RCMP seeking suspect in arson at Nanaimo business

Nanaimo RCMP are asking for public assistance in identifying a man seen leaving a Dollarama on March 29 minutes after a fire was reported at the store. The fire was reported about 9 p.m. at the store at 609 Bruce Ave.

Nanaimo RCMP are asking for public assistance in identifying a man seen leaving a Dollarama on March 29 minutes after a fire was reported at the store.

The fire was reported about 9 p.m. at the store at 609 Bruce Ave. and caused significant damage, even though it was confined to one aisle.

The store was about to close when the fire was noticed by an employee.

Investigators were told a male was seen in the area where the fire started, and had been inside the store for about 15 minutes. He was seen leaving through the rear door with a shopping cart.

The suspect is described as about six-foot-five with a thin build. He was wearing dark clothing and had a red-and-pink mask.
