RCMP looking for witnesses to Duncan house fire

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are asking the public for information about a house fire on Allenby Road in Duncan on Monday.

In particular, they are looking for anyone who was driving in the industrial area near Allenby and Polkey roads between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m. and had a dash camera recording.

Police were in the area on another call when they saw flames inside the house.

They ran up to the structure and forced the doors open in an effort to see whether anyone was inside, but it became engulfed in smoke and dangerous to enter.

The Duncan Fire Department was called about 7 a.m. and arrived to extinguish the blaze.

Police were able to confirm that the lone resident was not at home.

Fire and police investigators are in the early stages of determining the fire’s cause.
