Allen Ma spent his Saturday painting over a racist message scrawled on a pillar outside the Victoria Chinese Public School.

Ma, who is president of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, said he was alerted to the message by Victoria police.

He arrived at the school to find the words “No Dogs or Chinesse Allowed!” written in black on a white pillar outside the building’s locked gate.

Ma said it was “kind of a shock” to see the racist graffiti. He said the building had never been vandalized with racism before.

“It never happened in Victoria,” he said.

Ma plans to visit Chinatwon community members to let them know what happened. He said police told him they’ve put the incident on file in case anything similar happens again.

“We’ll keep an eye on it,” Ma said.

Victoria police did not immediately respond to request for comment on how they are handling the case.
