Power has been restored for more than 4,500 customers in mid-Vancouver Island, mostly in Tofino and Ucluelet.

Transmission circuit failures were blamed after more than 2,200 people were left without power in Tofino and about the same number in Ucluelet. The lights went out this morning.

Meanwhile, pockets of outages remain on the Island, in Courtenay, where trees are down across wires, and Ladysmith, where planned work is being done on B.C. Hydro equipment. More than 300 customers are without power in Campbell River west of Miller Road. The cause is under investigation.

For most of these areas, Environment Canada is forecasting showers with a risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon and wind becoming southeast at 30 km/h gusting to 50 this morning.
