A fire about 1 a.m. Friday at the Alberni is being investigated as suspicious by the Port Alberni RCMP.
The owner was alerted about the fire and managed to put out most of it himself, police said. The Port Alberni Fire Department took over and extinguished the blaze, then conducted safety checks of the building.
Forensics officers from the RCMP and a fire investigator have been examining the scene and closed-circuit video from the area is being looked at.
