Police shoot plastic projectiles to subdue man with knife at Douglas and Hillside

Victoria police arrested a knife-wielding man Friday night, shooting plastic projectiles to subdue him. Police received several reports around 7 p.m. about a man yelling and threatening people with a knife near Bay and Blanshard streets.

Victoria police arrested a knife-wielding man Friday night, shooting plastic projectiles to subdue him.

Police received several reports around 7 p.m. about a man yelling and threatening people with a knife near Bay and Blanshard streets.

Members of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response team located him within minutes at Douglas Street and Hillside Avenue.

The man did not comply with the officers’ direction and reached for his knife, but surrendered when hit by the projectiles.

He was taken to hospital for assessment and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and then transported to police cells.

The man was later released with a court date and conditions.
