Victoria police say a 12-year-old boy was attacked on his way to school Wednesday morning and have issued an alert to Esquimalt parents.

The boy said he was riding his bike in the area of Devonshire and Fairview roads between 8 and 8:30 a.m. when he was suddenly grabbed and pulled from the bike by a strange man. He said he fell to the ground and shielded his face as the man stood over him and grabbed at his backpack.

A second person, believed to be a male, pulled the man away, the boy said, before telling him to get back on his bike and leave.

The rode straight to school. He was not physically injured.

Police were called late Wednesday afternoon, after the boy told his parents what had happened.

The boy was not able to describe either of the people involved. Police would like to speak to the person who intervened.

Anyone with information is asked to call Victoria police at 250-995-7654, extension 1, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
