Nanaimo RCMP are investigating an armed robbery late Thursday at the Tim Hortons in North Town Centre Mall.

The robbery happened about 11:30 p.m. Staff and a number of witnesses said they saw a male approach the till and demand money.

He appeared to have a gun tucked into his waistband and was wearing a mask that covered the lower half of his face.

An undisclosed amount of money was handed over and the male ran out the door. He was last seen running toward the intersection of Uplands Drive and Oliver Road.

Police said a black sedan-style vehicle was seen repeatedly circling the mall parking lot about the time of the robbery, but they don’t know if there is a connection.

The suspect is described as five-foot-10 to six feet tall with a slim build. He was wearing dark clothing, including a black hoodie with tan trim, black gloves, baggy pants and dark skater shoes with white trim on the base.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or go to nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
