RCMP traffic investigators in Nanaimo have ruled out alcohol, drugs and weather as contributing factors in a three-vehicle collision on Tuesday.

The incident began at approximately 3 p.m. in the 1300 block of Townsite Road and ended near the intersection of Townsite and East Wellington Roads.

Witnesses, including two paramedics and other involved drivers, told police a white pickup truck was moving west in the eastbound lane when it struck an eastbound Tesla.

That crash caused significant damage to the Tesla, driven by a 49-year-old woman, and dislodged a tire from the pickup. But the truck continued on and rear-ended another pickup, driven by a 45-year-old man, before hitting a B.C. Hydro pole and coming to a stop.

The 50-year-old woman driving the pickup sustained non-life threatening injuries and managed to free herself from her vehicle. Paramedics transported her to hospital.

The other drivers involved were not injured. The white pickup and Tesla sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.

The investigation continues and any witnesses are asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at their non-emergency number. Police also asked drivers to review any relevant dash-cam video.
