A deceased man discovered Saturday in the driveway of a Saanich home has been identified as 30-year-old Andrew Michael Sidor.

Saanich police and the Vancouver Integrated Major Crime Unit are investigating the death, which is being treated as suspicious due to the nature of the injuries.

Police offered condolences to Sidor’s family and friends.

“We will continue to put all necessary resources into investigating how and why he died, to bring closure to those who loved him,” said Saanich police Sgt. Julie Fast.

Officers were called to Crease Avenue and Wascana Street shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday with a report of a man lying unresponsive outside an unoccupied house. Crease runs parallel to the Trans-Canada Highway near Tillicum Road.

Police have been looking into Sidor’s movements before his death and have obtained surveillance video taken last Thursday in the Rock Bay area.

He is wearing the same clothing in the video as when he was found, but officers have not found his shoes or the backpack he was carrying. Police believe they items could provide valuable insight into his death and are appealing for the public’s help in locating them.

The backpack is described as all black with what might be reflective or shiny material on the shoulder straps. The shoes are white or light-coloured lace-up runners.

If you see any items that match these descriptions, do not touch them. Call Saanich police at 250-475-4321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
