Victoria police are asking for witnesses after a man was taken into custody at gunpoint Friday evening following a report of one man pointing a gun at another near the children’s petting zoo in Beacon Hill Park.

“Officers rushed to the area and located a man who matched the suspect description,” police said in a Saturday statement.

“The suspect had returned to a nearby motorhome and was called out by officers along with another occupant. The man was taken into custody at gunpoint.”

Two replica firearms and a crossbow were seized.

The original caller disconnected from 911 without leaving contact information. Officers are seeking additional witnesses. No charges have yet been recommended.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was near the petting zoo between 8:45 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Friday and who has not yet spoken to officers.

The police report desk is at 250-995-7654 extension one. To make a report anonymously, call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Beacon Hill has been the scene of several incidents in recent months, including the murder of a Victoria mother, fires, and an assault on a teenage girl.
