Triangle Green plaza, near the eastern end of the Johnson Street Bridge, opened for public use Monday, with new trees, seating, lighting, and landscaping.

A public art piece previously in Bastion Square, Illarion Gallant’s Commerce Canoe has been moved to the plaza in a traffic island at the junction of Wharf, Pandora and Johnson. The large-scale piece features an aluminum boat suspended in five tall reeds.

Black tupelo trees in the plaza were donated Royal Commonwealth Society Vancouver Island Branch.

“The new green space complements other recent improvements near the waterfront and provides a cheerful space for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles in this bustling location,” Mayor Lisa Helps said in a media release.
