Kate Sykes-Waller takes her 18-year-old-horse, Ali, out for some exercise in snowy fields on an Oldfield Road farm in Central Saanich on Friday. Waller kept Ali in her stall over the past week, as winter storms slammed the Island with heavy snow and high winds. Up to 30 centimetres of snow fell in Greater Victoria — more in some other Island spots — while fierce winds cancelled numerous B.C. Ferries sailings, downed trees and caused power outages. Greater Victoria can expect milder conditions this weekend and into the middle of next week. Showers and temperatures in the high single-digits, perhaps even 10 C, are forecast through Thursday.
