One person has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault Monday night in Vic West.

Victoria police including canine officers responded to a report of a sexual assault on the Galloping Goose Regional Trail near Harbour Road and Tyee Road, the department said.

Officers contained the area as they investigated.

The department did not say whether the victim was taken to hospital or treated for any injuries. 

The incident comes a week after a violent sexual assault in the 600-block of Pembroke Street at 10 p.m. on Sept. 14.

A man assaulted and then sexually assaulted a victim inside a fenced area between Pembroke and Princess Avenue. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man in the Sept. 14 incident was described as Black, 30 to 40 years old and about six feet tall with a slim build. He was wearing a surgical mask.

Victoria police did not say whether the two sexual assaults are connected.
