A 47-year-old North Saanich man suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a car in Port Alberni that jumped a curb while the driver was attempting to park.
The 78-year-old driver, a Port Alberni resident, was trying to park her car in front of a Service B.C. building in the 4000 block of Eighth Avenue when the car suddenly shot forward, police said. The car jumped the curb and struck a cement garbage container and a pedestrian before landing on its driver’s side by the building’s entrance.
The pedestrian tried to jump out of the way, but he was unable to in time. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The driver was trapped inside her car and had to be removed using a hydraulic tool. She was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Port Alberni RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the collision, but said drugs and alcohol were not a factor. No charges have been laid.
