Two women in their 80s were struck by a vehicle at a Sidney intersection on Sunday night.

The pedestrians suffered non-life threatening injuries when they were struck in the crosswalk at Sidney Avenue and Third Street, near the Star Cinema.

One received treatment at the scene. The other was taken to hospital, said Const. Meighan de Pass, spokeswoman for Sidney-North Saanich RCMP.

Stella Moffat said her friend has a broken pelvis and remains in hospital. Police had said that the woman had been released from hospital.

Moffat said she and two friends were crossing the street when they were struck. The woman whose pelvis was broken was in front and was thrown into the air, she said.

Moffat received abrasions. The injured woman’s husband was not struck, but is shaken up, she said.

The driver received a ticket for failure to yield to pedestrians at a crosswalk and for having a windshield or window that impairs vision, de Pass said.

The fire department was at the scene by 10 p.m. The intersection remained closed as Sidney RCMP investigated.
