Victoria’s first park-and-ride lot will be launched April 1 in a bid to ease downtown parking congestion.

The Downtown Victoria Business Association has partnered with the City of Victoria, Robbins Parking, the Pattison Group and B.C. Transit to offer parking spaces for 53 commuter vehicles.

The lot, at the former Metro Toyota dealership location at Douglas Street and Frances Avenue, is located next to the busy Douglas transit corridor, allowing commuters to hop onto passing buses and be downtown within a few minutes, the DVBA said.

The monthly rate of $100 includes a parking space and a monthly transit pass, which costs $85 on its own.

Robbins, which will manage the park-and-ride, will provide the first month free for commuters who commit to at least three months.

“We hear the frustration of our business owners that their employees do not have places to park and that downtown parking is getting too expensive for their staff,” said DVBA executive director Kerri Milton in a statement.

“The DVBA cares about our downtown, so we want to help come up with solutions that make it easier to shop, work, live and play downtown.”
