Owner waiting to assess damage at restaurant after SUV crash

A restaurant damaged Wednesday when an SUV veered into it will remain closed indefinitely.

Kuku’s on Burnside Road West has been shut down since it was struck by the vehicle. It’s believed the driver, the lone occupant, suffered a medical episode.

Saanich police said the driver’s injuries were minor.

Kuku’s owner Randy Madahar said Thursday that he still hadn’t been allowed inside and is waiting to see what happens on Friday.

Despite the crash, Madahar said he will continue to send food to people in need in the downtown area twice a week — on Wednesdays and Sundays — as he has done for the past six years.

He said if he can’t use his restaurant’s food, he will get it from elsewhere.

Madahar said anybody who would like to contribute food can call him at 250-893-6005.
